The Spacecraft (F9) window's Policy tab is used to define the individual rules on a spacecraft. Such as; when to activate the shields, which berth requests to automatically accept, and setting the name of spacecraft.

Only a person in the spacecraft's chain of command can change its policies.

Christen Spacecraft

Change the name of the spacecraft. The default name is the ID of the spacecraft.

The captain can name the spacecraft. If there is no captain, anyone with chain of command over the spacecraft can name it.

Title

Company spacecraft belong to an avatar, this is shown in the form of who owns the title of the spacecraft. It is possible to relinquish a title so another avatar from claim it. By default the title is owned by the avatar that Purchased the spacecraft.

Alert Condition

The current alert condition is indicated on the alert condition status panels.

Alert condition is automatically triggered by certain events:

  • Red - Active mission order is Self Destruct.
  • Red - Structural damage is 90% or greater.
  • Red - Visible advance condition, e.g. fire, acid.
  • Red - Air pressure in all rooms is not breathable.
  • Red - Worst system damaged is 100%.
  • Yellow - Structural damage is 50% or greater.
  • Yellow - Worst system damage is more than 50%.

Only an avatar in the spacecraft's chain of command may change the alert condition.

On old-style spacecraft, alert condition cannot be changed; it always reflects the conditions shown above. On new-style spacecraft, events may trigger a higher alert condition; an avatar or officer must lower it.

Ship Access Policy

Controls who is automatically admitted to the ship, from the outside.

Options:

  • Admit Commanders
  • Admit Crew
  • Admit Crew and Passengers
  • Admit Empire
  • Admit Friends
  • Admit Neutrals
  • Admit Everyone

All access options include commanders, people in the spacecraft's chain of command. Political stance options; Empire, Friend and Neutral, includes crew and passengers.

This policy applies to these situations:

Accept Berth Requests

  • Accept Crew Berth Requests
  • Accept Passenger Berth Requests
    • Allow Sea Chest Access
  • Accept Troop Berth Requests

When checked, requests for the specific berths are accepted automatically. When unchecked, requests for the specific berths must be accepted by a person in the spacecraft's chain of command.

This setting is ignored while the ship's current mission order is Board Crew, Board Passengers or Board Troops.

Avatar passengers can't access their sea chest unless the option is checked.

Automatically Load Vehicles

When checked, new vehicles are loaded when needed to fill empty parking spots. If the spacecraft is landed at an airport terminal, vehicles are loaded from the city. If the spacecraft is in trade range of a station, vehicles are loaded from all cities in the solar system.

One vehicle is loaded per minute. Commerce policies of the vehicle's empire apply.

When unchecked, vehicles are not loaded automatically.

Ship Orientation Policy

This policy tells the pilot which direction to orient the up direction of the spacecraft. This policy only applies when the spacecraft is in orbit over a world.

  • Fly ship right-side up at all time.
  • Fly ship inverted in space.
  • Fly ship with port side towards the gravity well.
  • Fly ship with starboard side toward the gravity well.

Shield Up Policy

The shield operator prefers to keep the shields down to save power. This policy tells the shield operator what conditions require the shields to be raised.

  • Shields up at all times.
  • Shields down at all times.
  • Shields down unless any contacts detected.
  • Shields down unless non-empire contacts detected.
  • Shields down unless neutral or enemy detected.
  • Shields down unless enemy contacts detected.

Shield Fuel Policy

This policy tells the shield operator how to consider the spacecraft's fuel status before raising the shields.

  • Ignore fuel status when raising shields.
  • Do not raise shields when ship has no fuel.
