Unable to Target Asteroid

#1
I'm in my system, within 200K meters of an asteroid and it doesn't show up either as a command target, or even on the Fire Control terminal of my ship. How am I supposed to protect my world if I can't attack an incoming asteroid?

Since you're in the neutral zone, maybe all weapons are disabled?

Lost my empire capital as a result of the ship being unable to target the asteroid. Same thing with the planetary weapon system. I think asteroids need to be shut off until this is fixed.

I was present on this ship near this asteroid.

The system doesn't work very well. Manually flying extremely close to the asteroid seemed to trigger the ship to fire while in a berserk posture. But it was too little too late. Even then, the firing was sporadic and half-hearted.

What that proved, however, was that the weapons do actually *work*, the problem is getting them to activate.

Asteroids need to show up on the fire control station and the orders list, and officers should automatically insert an order to attack them when they are on sensors, according to posture.

If I had my guess, this is exactly the cause. The asteroid was marked neutral, which probably went hand in had with whatever Veil of Targoss restrictions prevent going after neutral targets.

Haxus, could you refer and if this is the case, mark asteroid to spawn as an enemy of the empire?

It would seem unlikely, given that the weapons did ultimately fire. But perhaps the fact it attacked your buildings changed its status somehow...

Either way, setting it to enemy certainly couldn't hurt.

Asteroids are not units of any empire. Your empire doesn't have a political stance toward them. Same as planets and moons.

I am working on the issues described in this thread, whatever the cause.

I have destroyed the asteroid using a space fighter armed with large rockets and missiles. Missiles are handy because they lock on to the asteroid and give you a lock-on reticle.

I watched someone destroy an asteroid using turrets on their ship, manned by NPCs.

Asteroid will now show up on the unit list for Attack and Follow orders.

I found Kadoset's system just now, and a bunch of asteroids are floating around. I can confirm that asteroids do not appear on the fire control station's console.
My guess is that asteroids are treated similar to projectiles?

My crew seems to only really wanna fire at the asteroids when the ship isn't moving, and the asteroids are close. It feels very weird having to fly close to it, come to a full stop, and then pray they shoot at it. And these asteroids were moving a lot slower than the others I have seen.

Please make us able to target them manually with the fire control station's console. Being two (or more) players trying to destroy an asteroid is a lot of fun, one piloting and one doing sensors and weapons.
