Getting a lot of players that ask why their cities report that they have no crew are available when they are trying to crew a ship.


So far I have told the players to ensure that morale is positive and that population has filled most of the housing in the city. And as far as I know this has helped.

However it would be nice if the cities explained why they have no crew available.

It is also currently unknown as to what actually controls the amount of crew available at once. I think it had to do with the University/Academy blueprint, but I don't know in what way or what else might affect it. Could this be clarified so we can add it to the wiki please?

I have no military buildings atm and have not seen that issue yet. Your theory could be correct.

Another question I never saw asked was .. do you have a military airport? ... military will not deploy from a civilian airport.

Bump. This is a very common question from new players.

Having this issue in my capital in Starship, morale is +8, population is over 1.5k and I have a large airport + university, but I was still only able to board two crew members into my first ship

Edit: It seems like the airport can only "hold" two crew, despite the size, and so I need to keep re-boarding to get groups of 2 to join the roster repeatedly


Edit 2: It turns out the university in my city only has 2 homes, and so that's what actually holds the crew, not the airport. Guess I gotta build more unis around the city

It might be worth it to add Homes as a requirement to university building blueprints.
(Assuming our assumption about number of university homes determining number of available crew is correct.)

And maybe add a note about how many crew are available and why to the city report?

Would definitely want that reported in city reports, it's currently very "invisible" and confusing
