Full Version: Rename "Hazeron Starship" to "Shores of Hazeron" Poll

I believe that "Shores of Hazeron" is a name with a ring to it, as well as a history. A name that would stir the emotions even if you didn't know what it referred to. Where are these shores? What is the strange sea that laps against them? What alien gulls cry in the waves there at twilight?

It also doesn't contain the words, "star", "space" or "ship". It tells the potential player that someone has thought about the content of this game - specific lore, perhaps interesting stories - and not just made a simulator with an excuse for a setting. This sets it apart from the annoyingly narrow repertoire of space game names currently on offer ("Star Citizen", "Starmade", "Space Engineers", "Starship Evo", "Starbound"...).

The MMO is gone for good. There is no danger of confusion. Returning players looking for Shores of Hazeron would be able to find its replacement. Why not replace "Hazeron Starship", which always hits me as a "secondary" name, like "Coke Zero", with the flagship name we all know and love, and make sound like, instead of a vestigial holdout, a true successor?

(Or Shores of Hazeron: Strike-Team Thunder-Kill Alpha: Hard Target: The Reckoning starring Sandra Bullock.)
I had been considering the same. But I was actually leaning more towards just naming it "Hazeron".

I don't think it is a bad idea to make a little distance from the old MMO game, and even so that can just be referred to as "Hazeron MMO" or even something generic like "Hazeron Online".

But on the other hand, all games that make a non-MMO version of they originally MMO only game give it a sub-title. Such as: "Unlimited", "Your Own".

I will confess that some sub-title for the non-MMO version would be a good idea. If for no other reason than bring attention to that it is a game about spaceships and colonize works in a sandbox galaxy.

Random ideas off the top of my head would be:
  • Hazeron
  • Hazeron Galaxies
  • Hazeron Horizons
  • Hazeron Frontiers
  • Hazeron Colonies
But I am not really that opposed to the current name of Hazeron Starship. Aside from it making it sound like you literally only play as/with one starship. It doesn't really give that feeling of this being a universe that you can explore and colonies.
Shores of Hazeron, for me, used to be all about starships. I would spend a ton of hours in the old designer. These days I don't just because I don't have the time for the new one because you HAVE to spend hours to get anything done.

Plus like you said Vectorus, the old name is something special.

I like: Hazeron or Hazeron Galaxies.

I would personally stay away from Hazeron Frontiers to keep distance from the old game Elite II: Frontier just because  ;)
I too support a change to the original name, same content(minus the tears ofcourse).
I'm pretty deeply conflicted on this.

On one hand, this is not the game we knew and loved. It's a more streamlined and focused experience, and I feel Hazeron Starship reflects that narrower scope. It still bares the Hazeron moniker, but it evokes a different feeling - perhaps as it should. On the other, while this is the most radical change Hazeron has experienced, it is not the first. Between changes to planets, buildings, the designer, and multiple galaxies, the game has been reinvented several times over already.

Given that the MMO is gone, I find it appropriate that the latest iteration retain the Shores of Hazeron name. And since Haxus has hinted that multiplayer capability may be in the cards, perhaps there could even be a community-funded official server to connect to, again giving us a unified Hazeron universe.
I too voted for Shores of Hazeron.

If the MMO going away, might as well keep the original name.

Hazeron Starship sounds like it's just one small part of Hazeron, specifically about only designing & flying spaceships.
But it's about so much more than that. It's pretty much the whole Shores of Hazeron experience, in singleplayer.
